We are pleased to announce the return of the original Asheville Marathon and the Inaugural Half to Biltmore Estate on March 16th, 2014
LAST YEAR SOLD OUT THREE MONTHS PRIOR TO THE EVENT, AND THIS YEAR WILL SELL OUT FAST TOO, ESPECIALLY WITH THE ADDITION OF THE HALF, SO ACT QUICKLY TO SECURE YOUR SPOT IN THE 26.2 & 13.1 CHALLENGE IN AMERICA’S LARGEST BACKYARD!
In the Asheville Marathon & Half, held on the grounds at Biltmore Estate, runners will explore 26.2 or 13.1 miles through America’s Largest Backyard. Asheville Marathoners will wind through paved roads to see hardwood forest, meadows, gardens, and will see extraordinary views of the Biltmore House and the Estate.
Undeniable beauty comes with a price.
For Full Marathoners only, with the European-style formal gardens left in your wake, you will move into a much different passageway, encompassed by untamed foliage and less civilized terrain. The wild side of Biltmore: Where few eyes have seen… Where few feet have trod… a different kind of Biltmore experience awaits.
While other half and full marathons present you with monotonous scenes of asphalt, steel, and glass, the 26 miles in and around Biltmore provide much more depth and diversification: from the manmade marvels of gardening and architecture that is the Estate itself, to lesser tamed, more challenging stretches that lie on its borders and along the French Broad.
THE ASHEVILLE MARATHON IS A BOSTON QUALIFYING EVENT! USATF SANCTION #13-13-034 AND COURSE CERTIFICATION #NC12011DF
The 2014 Asheville Marathon & Half is limited to only 1,300 runners.

THE COURSE: where civilized meets primitive!
Asheville Marathoners will experience a couple of tall hills before mile eight and the remaining journey is a mixture of valley and rolling terrain. Beginning on-road near Antler Hill Village area, runners will climb to the Deerpark Restaurant, sail up and along the main road to the Biltmore House, and loop by, within feet from the massive main entrance doors of the House, to enter the Walled Garden. Runners will then edge along the Azalea Garden and lagoon paralleling the French Broad River, transition onto packed dirt carriage trails, and explore west quarter vistas of the Biltmore House normally off-limits to the public. The final stretch of the Asheville Marathon runs directly through working vineyards to finish back on east side.
The Location: Biltmore is America’s largest and most esteemed private residence. The 250-room French Renaissance chateau, perched over 8,000-acres of meticulously-tended gardens, is host to a million visitors a year. To learn more about Biltmore, visit www.biltmore.com or call 877-BILTMORE.
