About USA Triathlon Splash & Dash Youth Aquathlon Series

The series, which launched in 2012 with 30 events, expanded to kick off the 3rd annual season in March with 50 swim-run events held untill November of 2014 with more than 2,400 young athletes taking part. The events are hosted in each of USA Triathlon’s 10 regions, and are open to young athletes between the ages 7-15. The series focuses on participation and having fun rather than competition, and many of the events are not timed. One of the primary objectives of the series is introducing youth to the multisport lifestyle, and many of the selected events will also offer educational opportunities such as USA Triathlon-sanctioned youth clinics. Visit usatriathlon.org/splashanddash for complete information on the series.

Course Description & Details:

Aquathlons are a fun and fast-growing sport that combines running and swimming. A typical aquathlon is a run-swim-run; however, it is not uncommon to see a two-stage race which is simply a swim-run combination, which is what we do. Either way, it is a cost-effective alternative to a triathlon due to there not being an expense for a bike.

This aquathlon is designed both for athletes who are just getting into the multi-sport lifestyle as well as to help endurance athletes train for bigger multisport races and improve their swim/run transition or open water swim times. Regardless of your level of participation, it takes both physical and mental training, enabling youth to practice focus and commitment. Registration divisions are Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced categories.

This event will be timed and youth will score points with USAT. This keeps it fun for all athletes, while more competitive kids get ‘participation’ and experience ‘points’.
