Course Description:

The 23rd Annual Lelia Patterson Center Frostbite Races take place hilly to challenging terrain, with some steep inclines on both the 10k and 5k courses, with views of Hutch Mountain in Fletcher, NC on Sunday, February 15th, 2015, starting at 2 p.m. Choose the 10K or 5K run, or 1 mile fun run/walk over beautiful hilly terrain! This premier racing event is meant to provide opportunities for all racing levels and ages.

The Frostbite races will begin and finish at the Lelia Patterson Center located at Howard Gap Road and Naples Road in Fletcher, N.C. Proceeds benefit the Lelia Patterson Center. The 2015 Frostbite event also will feature a Family Fun Day and Wellness Expo at the Lelia Patterson Center from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. with games, booths and music.

Register for the Frostbite by Jan. 31 to guarantee a comfy race tee. 10k participants will receive a long-sleeve shirt, 5k runners get a short-sleeve tee with option to upgrade to a long-sleeve for an additional $5.

10k Route: Start at the Lelia Patterson Center, 10k runners take RIGHT onto Howard Gap Rd. Runners will continue on Howard Gap past Hutch Mountain Rd and past Patty’s Chapel Rd and go all the way to Jackson Rd. They will turn right on Jackson Rd and run to Patty’s Chapel Rd. They will then turn right onto Patty’s Chapel Rd and run to Howard Gap Rd. They will turn left at Howard Gap Rd back toward Hutch Mountain Rd. They will turn left onto Hutch Mountain Rd and make a U-turn on Hutch Mountain Rd and run to the finish line at the LPC. (10k runners watch for U turn signs on Hutch Mountain Road.)

5k Route: Runners will start at the Lelia Patterson Center, several minutes behind the 10k runners. 5k runners will turn right onto Howard Gap road and then a RIGHT at Hutch Mountain Rd, continue on Hutch Mountain Rd to approximately Pitman Rd, where they will make a U-turn and proceed to the finish line at the LPC.

We strongly encourage 10k participants to be able to run/jog the full distance of this race due to this run course being on busier roads in Fletcher, NC. The 5k race will veer off of Howard Gap road rather quickly after the start of the race, so walking the 5k event is allowed. 



NEW! We are pleased and honored to announce that the 22nd annual Frostbite 10k is now part of the 8th annual Asheville Track Club Grand Prix! Now Asheville Track Club members can start gaining points, early in the season, towards their Grand Prix totals by participating in the 2014 LPC Frostbite 10k.

Current member of the Asheville Track Club  get $3 off the registration fee!

Play with the Penguin! The Frostbite Penguin is back and will be starting the running race with you! Join him for some post race pictures and some post event family fun at the fitness expo. 

SUNDAY, Feb 15th – RACE DAY!

1:15 – 2pm – Packet Pickup at Lelia Patterson Center.

1:30 pm – Family Fun and Fitness Expo inside Lelia Patterson Center.

2:00 pm – 1-mile Fun Run/Walk begins at Lelia Patterson Center.

2:30 pm – 10k begins at Lelia Patterson Center.

2:33 pm – Approximate start of 5k Run/Walk at Lelia Patterson Center. 5kers will just line up right behind the 10kers to be ready to GO!

3:45pm – Approximate beginning of Awards and Ceremonies with local, hand-crafted, pottery awards for overall and age group winners.

Post Race Food: Earth Fare, Fletcher Valley Market and Strawberry Hill Yogurt and Vegetarian Cafe will provide post race fuel for runners. A variety of fruit, cookies and yummy soup plus a mixture of hot and cold beverages will be available to participants. Soup and hot beverages are available for purchase by friends and families of runners.
