2015 Lung Buster Time Trial Series
The Lung Buster Time Trial Series is a five-part competitive time trial racing series of cycling events in Western North Carolina held with the intent of providing all participants a professional racer experience, no matter how fast you are. The series includes 2 one-way, very challenging, hill climbs at Hendersonville’s infamous Beast Hill at Bearwallow and the punishing Elk Mountain route outside of Asheville, and 3 flat & fast 20km out-and-back courses, with two along Etowah River Road and one on Riverside Drive, which newly this year offers a 40k course, between Marshall and Asheville. So, you’re sure to have a course perfect for you!
Lung Buster: The very name embodies pushing one’s mind and body to its aerobic limits. And that’s exactly what we expect to see. This series is a great test for participants of all abilities, and a great way to gauge your standing and progress in your cycling endeavors. And with awards, medals, cash, bragging rights, and course records all on the line, you better not leave your inner competitor at home!
The 2015 Lung Buster Time Trial cycling events are non-USAC sanctioned events. Cyclists will not need a USAC license to ride in this year’s events.
The series proffers opportunities to Cyclists and Triathletes from all manner of ages, disciplines, experience, and ability levels. If you don’t have a time trial bike, don’t worry about it. Our divisions include Merckx and Time Trial Divisions, with Categories for all ages (see more below). Our unique mix of different racing environments allows riders of different strengths and focuses to level the playing field amongst competitors. Also, having five separate events makes for a fairer series in that one poor showing won’t decimate your opportunity to do well in the series as a whole. So as to not leave out any cyclist: whether you’re an elite time trailer or a recreational rider on your road bike wanting to prove your merit in our Merckx/Standard division.
Cyclists have a reputation for having egos as big as their thighs. But with the kinds of efforts we saw in Lung Buster 2013, we feel that such braggadocio is warranted! We saw hard efforts and fast times, and expect 2014 to bring an abundance of the same. So when the time of your life meets the ride of your life, you’d better be ready to channel your inner Kung-Fu, drive hard on the pedals, and Bust a Lung!
WE NOW OFFER GIFT CERTIFICATES TO SHARE THE FUN N’ FITNESS OF DESTINATION EVENTS WITH FRIENDS AND LOVED ONES. LEARN MORE.

Who can participate?
Cyclists and Triathletes of all abilities! Don’t have a time trial bike? No problem, we have a Merckx/Standard division, which allows you to use your road bike! Time trials are a safe way for experienced & recreational cyclists to measure their fitness level and progress. It’s also a great way for triathletes to sharpen their bike skills. If you enjoy riding and want to set your own personal record, give a time trial a try!
Do you have to have a USAC license to participate?
No, we have opted not have the LBTT be USAC sanctioned events this year. This makes the events more affordable for any and all types of cyclists to participate, not just racers. In addition, only mass start races count for upgrade points with USAC thus defeating the purpose of cyclists participating for the sole purpose of getting points to upgrade.
In order to get series points to qualify for end of season prizes do I have to register in the same category the entire season?
Yes, you may register for either the TT or Merckx division at any race you so desire, but you must stay in the same category the entire series in order to qualify for prizes. (For example, a Master’s 50+ rider that registers in that category for the first race would need to stay in that category for the rest of the season.)
Do my time trials count towards moving me into a new cycling category?
As far as the upgrades, TT’s do not count, only mass start races.

Thanks for putting on this event (2015 Riverside Dr. TT). I found it very easy to sign up, and the folks working the course were very helpful and pleasant. I live near this course and can ride it “for free” but found the event, timing equipment, workers, other riders, and the “occasion” of it all well worth the reasonable entry fee – not even including the surprise can of beer at the finish!
I’ll be back for more (idaph events, with or without beer) ~Joshua K., 2015 Riverside Dr. TT participant
