The first race in the kid’s series is May 26th in Asheville, NC at the JCC. It will be a swim, run event also called a ‘splash n dash’. If you are thinking about participating in the Carolina Kid’s Series this summer here are some tips so you will be ready for action. Start now it will be here before you know it.

Swimming:

Learn to swim with your face in the water and breathe to the side. Being able to breathe to both sides is best and will help you keep a balanced stroke. Swimming 1-2 times a week at the pool with you parents is good. Try and get some laps in while you are there and practice breathing to the side.

Biking:

Do you ride your bike regularly? Try getting on that thing 3-4 times a week and RIDE! Practice going in a straight line and maneuvering around corners. Remember the bike goes where you look so DON’T LOOK where you don’t want to go.

Always wear your helmet and practice buckling and unbuckling. You will have to put on and take off your helmet in transition all by yourself.

Running:

Go outside and play. Chase, tag, or hide and seek. Try and be outside running around every day there is sunshine. Get your parents to take you on walk/jog around the neighborhood.

Make sure you wear socks and a good pair of FAST shoes.

Don’t try and run in sandals or flip flops.

MOST important drink water to stay hydrated, eat healthy whole foods like fruits and vegetables, and get lots of sleep. So play hard and go to bed early.

Coach Ryan

*To learn more tips from Ryan email him at ryan@idaph.net.

We welcome sponsors and partners to help us bring this and many more youth events to our area. We feel it to be an honor to do so, and with partners such as the Asheville JCC already by our side, we feel we are off to a good start and the sky’s the limit!

This race is going to be hotter than a fresh-cooked falafel, and we expect numerous area parents and kids to decide to join in on the fun. With every step ran and every stroke swam, area youth will attain the tools necessary to build a better tomorrow.

The Bearwallow Hill Climb time trial, which is part of the Lung Buster Time Trial Series, was fortunate to have Paul Jackson on the mountain taking gorgeous, scenic photos of the riders as they crested the top of the hill. The action shot photos are beautifully done and would make great gifts, framed pictures and new facebook profile and cover photos! Show Paul your thanks for taking his time to come out and do these great pictures by purchasing a few pictures from him! You can check out his online photo gallery on his website.

Thank you Paul! We hope you will come back to shoot some pictures at another upcoming time trial and idaph event!

It’s time to get excited! We have added the Bele Chere 5k race to our 2013 idaph events, and we plan on having a spectacular day of summer racing! Surrounded by a festival celebrating art, culture, and “Beautiful Living”, there has always been a place for some “beautiful running”. This very well may be the last edition of this great Asheville tradition, and we would hate for you to have to regret missing out on this one last chance to run the historic race. It’s up to you take advantage of the chance to shine like the summer sun.

For 34 years running, the Bele Chere 5k has attracted top-tier runners from across Western NC, proffering each a chance to become the man (or woman) of the hour. The rolling course challenges elite competitors to lay down blazing times in a hard fight, matching stride for stride and running elbow to elbow. From start to finish, this footrace is always an endorphine-releasing, adrenaline-pumping melee, with no easy wins and no time for resting. Our USATF-certified course will be quite similar to last year’s, with only a few minor modifications. Like most local races, the course has its share of rolling hills that we’ve all grown to know and love. Winding around the festival village and through downtown, runners will rise, crest, and descend through the dream-like mountain paradise we call Asheville. Pack Square Park will be the site of race headquarters, and the park stage area will be the site of the post-race celebration, including the finish of the Kid’s Fun Run and the awards ceremony.

New to the 2013 Bele Chere race is a Team Challenge competition. Grab your friends, family, coworkers and club members to form four person relay teams. Each individual will run the entire 5k stretch themselves. Team awards for fastest teams, most participants from a company registered in the team challenge, best-team spirit awards, costume contest for company themed teams and more!

Although the competition may be fierce and cutthroat, beyond our main event is a day full of fun for your entire posse… especially the kids! We are upping the ante for the kiddies’ fun run this year, and are excited to see what our athletes of tomorrow have to put on display. We encourage kids to wear costumes, and special awards will be given for them. The kid’s run is FREE! We will have custom designed tees for kids and parents available for only $12! All kids will get a finisher’s medal, not to mention memories that will last a lifetime.

Year after year, the Bele Chere festival celebrates the art and culture of WNC, of which our beloved City of Asheville is the epicenter and crown jewel. Amidst the annual revelry, the race has always both brought life and been the life of this extravagant downtown party. Likely the last edition of this great event, let’s give it all we’ve got as we come down the homestretch of its history, bringing vigor, laughter, and competition along for the ride. City budget restraints may ominously cast clouds over Bele Chere’s future, but in the present iDaph Events intends to make the 2013 Bele Chere 5k as vibrant as a ray of warm July sunshine!

Registration is open on imathlete.com and we expect this race to fill up quickly this year! Grab your friends and sign up today!
