Update on July 14, 2023 at 6:15pm

The Pool is Ready for the Race!

We have some unexpected, awesome news to share with everyone! We were notified at 4:45pm on Friday, July 14th, by the pool management company that the pool repairs have passed city inspection this afternoon. The pool has been filled up with water, which means we are good to go for the swim portion of the race on Sunday!

Here are the key details:

- The pool has passed the city inspection, and they will officially open for the race on Sunday.

- The replacement run/bike/run format was received positively, so we plan to keep that option in place for a great experience for everyone that is registered for the event.

- You will have two options now for the race on Sunday:

Option 1: Triathlon (swim/bike/run) - time trial start at approx 7:35am

Option 2: Two Runs - replacement format (run (one mile)/bike/run (5k)) - mass start time at 7:30am (look for start feather flags near the vendor area).

All participants must check-in on Sunday morning at packet pickup, even if you had your items shipped to you, and select which event you will participate in.

- Note that the run/bike/run event will have awards for the top 3 male/top 3 female, and the triathlon (swim/bike/run) event will have overall and age group awards offered (as listed on the website).

- We will not be posting a swim start list due to the two race options available. At the swim start, we will make announcements for line-up based on the swim time you registered on Race Roster. Swimmers will be started every 5-7 seconds in a time trial fashion as normal.

We want to express our gratitude to the pool, city, and officials for their hard work to ensure we can have an epic day with two awesome races at once. We look forward to seeing you all on Sunday!

Update on July 10th at 2:45pm We received word today from the Swim Club Management of Asheville that the substantial repairs and inspections to the pool wall and deck are still being finalized. They do not expect the pool to be open in time for the Asheville Triathlon on July 16th.

The triathlon race will continue to be held at Asheville Recreation Park. The format will change and in lieu of the swim, the format will now be a Run (1 mile), Bike (same course), Run (5k) - Same course.

We were all keeping our fingers and toes crossed that the permits would come back completed before the race. However, we are grateful that we can still hold a similar multi-sport event at Asheville Rec Park this weekend and look forward to seeing you there!

Welcome to the 2023 Asheville Triathlon! We are so grateful for the support we have from YOU and the City of Asheville, Asheville Recreation Park and the Friends of the WNC Nature Center for this event to take place in Asheville on Sunday, July 16, 2023.

  • Address to Asheville Recreation Park is: 65 Gashes Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28805 – https://goo.gl/maps/ktUSpqGPwQWd6SGg9
  • Mass Start Race starts at 7:30am
  • All participants must be parked, have your race number and ankle band (timing chip) picked-up and have all of your items set up in transition by 7:30am. Transition will ‘close’ at 7:30am and all participants need to leave that area until you race. This will eliminate unnecessary congestion in the transition area and everyone will have a better experience throughout the race.
