EVENT GUIDE

Packet Pickup

Sunday, July 21st: 6:00am - 7:00am

  • Race Merchandise is available for purchase at packet pickup on race day. Pre-order yours now HERE.
  • Participants must register online HERE before arrival at packet pickup.

PARKING & Transition

All spectators and participants must park at the JBL Soccer Complex parking lots on Azalea road & must be at the parking lot by 7:15am. Parking is located a short distance from the start of the race. NO PARKING will be permitted close to the pool on Gashes Creek Road.

PLEASE NOTE: All participants must have their transition area setup and be clear of the area by 7:30am. The transition zone will close at 7:30am.

We will have a normal transition zone, rather than a “transition at your car” style. Please allow 15-20 minutes to find a bike rack and organize all your gear there before beginning your swim.

Once you complete your swim, you’ll have a short jog down to the transition zone. There, you’ll have your bike, running shoes, and other gear waiting for you at a bike rack. Walk your bike (NO RIDING INSIDE THE TRANSITION ZONE) to the transition exit, mount your bike, and head out for your ride!

Spectators must arrive at the event no later than 7:15am and must also park at the JBL Soccer Field Complex. No participants will be allowed in this area past 7:30am. All spectators are required to wait until the last runner has finished to leave the Soccer parking lots. We expect this to be around 9:30am. Spectators are NOT permitted to ride their bike around during the event to watch a participant race. This has been a safety hazard and concern at the race. Please leave your bikes at home if you are coming to spectate. While you’re there, think about volunteering to help out for an hour or two!

Race Info

Swim Start: 7:30am
Course Cutoff: 10:30am

The event will be a time trial start. We'll be organizing participants into waves based on their estimated 100 yard swim time submitted during registration. The fastest swimmers will be placed in the first wave, and the slowest swimmers will be in the last wave.

Within each wave, participants will self-organize into a line. We will not be assigning your specific spot in the line - just your wave number. Each swimmer will be given ample time before the next one starts, in an effort to reduce any passing or hold ups in the pool.

Wave start times for all participants will be published at the top of this guide Friday, July 19th at noon.

SWIM

Bring your own swim cap!

Cross the timing mat, then run into the shallow end of the pool. Make an almost immediate LEFT down the first lane of the pool, then flip turn or slide under the pool buoys/lane line to the next lane and go down the lane, flip or go under the lap lane at the other end of the pool. Continue this pattern throughout the swim portion of the event. Only swim ONE DIRECTION in a lane. The lanes are wide enough for passing, so please stay to the right in your lane unless you are passing. Pass on the LEFT side of the swimmer and then get back into the right side of the lane when you are done passing. Touch the wall at the end, then flip turn or slide under the lane line rope and then proceed to the next lane.

  • Swim warm-ups are allowed from 7-7:20am.
  • When arriving at the pool, enter through the front entrance, and get in line around the pool. Swim volunteers will assist you when you arrive.
  • Athletes will line up around the pool.
  • The Swim “finish” is at the timing mat by transition.
BIKE

The 11.6 mile bike course will feature some rolling and challenging hills making for a true Asheville kind of bike ride before returning to Asheville Recreation Park for a final, very fast run.

The roads will be open to the public so all participants are urged to be alert to traffic. All intersections with a traffic light and/or turn will have law enforcement stopping traffic.

RUN

The run is an out and back style course and is one of the flattest 5ks you will find in the area! Runners will stay on the right side of the road for the run. While the road will be open to traffic, most of the course is lightly traveled. There will be one water station at the turnaround. Flat and fast is the name of the game on this 5k!

RUN PHOTO CONTEST

Have you heard about the AVL TRI RUN PHOTO CONTEST?! Show us your best jump, thumbs up, or something silly and creative, and you could be the winner of a FREE entry to the 2025 Asheville Triathlon!

The run photo will be taken across the beautiful, new, Gashes Creek bridge as you head out on your 5k run. Start scheming your best pose now!

Awards

An awards ceremony for overall winners will take place at approximately 10am, or slightly earlier, at the race hub area. Age group awards may be picked up at the Merchandise Tent at the conclusion of the overall awards ceremony.

Tri Local Duo Medals for those who completed both Hendersonville Triathlon and Asheville Triathlon will also be handed out at the award ceremony. A group photo will be taken.

Can't stay? You may also pick up your award at Fleet Feet Asheville in Biltmore Park, beginning Tuesday, July 23rd after 3pm, or email support@idaph.net for a payment link to purchase post-event shipping.

Charity Partner

iDream Athletes Foundation

It is the mission, duty and purpose of iDream Athletes Foundation to provide opportunities for Western North Carolina youth and adults who are unable to pay for sporting event fees, coaching, travel expenses and/or equipment to train for and/or participate in our WNC sporting events. This tax-exempt non-profit provides needs-based scholarships. The amounts to be gifted are determined on a case-by-case basis through a criteria-selection process.

In addition, we will assist in fueling the growth for local running, cycling and multi-sport champions, teams, clubs, locally owned stores and communities in Western North Carolina by providing resource and financial support when conducting our key activities.
