Hendersonville Triathlon registration is now open

Due to the popularity of the Asheville Triathlon in July, iDaph Events is proud to announce that registration is now open for the Hendersonville Triathlon, which takes place Sunday, September 20, 2020! Same location, same course — new name!

“We are so excited to officially announce that we have received approval to produce another triathlon THIS YEAR at the Patton Park and pool in Hendersonville,” says Daphne Kirwood, race director and owner of iDaph Events. “The city and park were so pleased with the July event that they would love for us to do it again this year, and 83% of our past participants said they would come back and do it again.”

The Hendersonville Triathlon will again be limited to 150 participants, and the format and courses will also be the same. The iDaph team is making improvements to the September event based on  feedback from the post-race survey from the Asheville Triathlon in July. Those updates will be posted on the website page and social media pages.

Here is the course description:

 Swim

The 400 meter swim takes place in Patton Pool, an Olympic sized 50 meter lap pool with 8 lanes. We will space the swimmers in time trial starts. Participants will have a time trial start with plenty of time between each swimmer and will be organized in wave starts according to their estimated 100 yard swim time. Swimmers will flow in one direction in the lane.

 Bike

The 12.5 bike course rolls through the quiet and beautiful Oklahawa Greenway in the City of Hendersonville, exits the Greenway and flows along a ‘rolling’ course through Henderson County countryside roads. Cyclists will return to the park by way of the Greenway and back to the transition zone.

 Run

The 5k run is FAST and for the most part-flat, except for one little dipper hill that you will crest before entering back to the park. The entire 5k run is on the quiet, shaded and beautiful Oklahawa Greenway in the City of Hendersonville. The section of the greenway used for this event will run towards Jackson Park. There will only be a short section where the bike/run overlap. The route is an out-and-back, lollipop course, with one ‘self-service’ water station at the halfway point. We do encourage you to bring your own fuel, nutrition and refreshments for this event.

 Virtual Option

The Hendersonville Triathlon also has a Virtual & Self-Serve vent experience, so participants who are not comfortable attending the in-person event, or who simply cannot make it that day, can participate in the virtual option and still be eligible for prizes, a race t-shirt, and a medal.

 Changes due to COVID-19

“Here at iDaph Events, safety is our top priority,” says Race Director Daphne Kirkwood. “We want to ensure that our participants, staff and volunteers stay safe and healthy, and we are following all of the necessary precautions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.”

Over the past few months iDaph Events has put together event safety plans for our event to move forward in a new format to ensure social distancing measures that are set forth by the CDC are adhered to.

“We will aim to have a ‘contactless’ event to provide a safe event for all,” says Kirkwood.

What we are doing to ensure safety at our events concerning COVID-19

To adhere to the NC guidelines, iDaph Events will be putting the following rules in place. To see what the guidelines are, please visit our Hendersonville Triathlon page.

New for September 20th!

Yoga and Massage is providing two unique yoga options specifically designed to help prepare for (and recover from) a triathlon. You can purchase one or both options during registration for $5 each.

Pre-event Gentle Flow Class: This class will take place at the packet pickup session from 2:30 - 3:30 PM. This class will help to prepare you physically and mentally for your event… Warm-up your body, breathe deeply, and enhance your focus and concentration thru mindful movement.

Post-event Recover, Rest, & Rejuvenate Class: Online Class Recording, to practice at your convenience at home (this class will be emailed to you). This class will help post-race soreness and fatigue through a restorative practice of longer held and supported yoga poses… be good to yourself.

New category: High school and college teams

iDaph Events is putting together a new category for the Hendersonville Triathlon for college and high school racing teams. The college and high school racing seasons have been severely affected by COVID-19, and having local triathlon events is a great way to encourage competition and provide motivation for those athletes. The category will include an award for fastest school teams.

“We know the college and high school racing season has been decimated due to the pandemic,” says Kirkwood. “This is an opportunity for high school and college athletes to come and participate in an event.”

Hendersonville Triathlon is set to be an annual event

The City of Hendersonville and the YMCA pool have stated they would like for iDaph Events to make the Hendersonville Triathlon an annual tradition each year in late May/early June. Due to its proximity to the Oklawaha Greenway and its heated pool, Patton Park is an ideal location for both triathlon training and triathlon events.

“So come on out, support a local triathlon and put all your training and fitness to good use again,” says Kirkwood. “Thank you in advance for continuing to support our small business by participating in our local, social-distanced events and the triathlon community. We are so grateful and love seeing all of you have purpose in all your training miles, enjoy the event experience and race your hearts out on race day!”

 Donate to a great cause

Have a towel you can donate? iDaph Events is collecting new or gently used towels for the Western Carolina Rescue Ministries. Towels will be collected at packet pick-up and race day. Please help us collect towels for this wonderful local organization!

Testimonials from the Asheville Triathlon in July at Patton Park

“iDaph did a fabulous job putting on the event with the location switch - everything from the drive through packet pick up to a rolling swim start and finish line bags to-go. It was definitely a different race day experience, but it worked.” ~ Jenn Stanton, female overall winner.

“I thought the race did a good job with using specific COVID protocols in order to make it a safe and fun experience for everyone. ~ Ricky Flynn

“Thanks for a great race and race plan. I felt safer racing yesterday than going to the grocery store.” ~ Carlton Beverly Cooper

“Just wanted to say thank you so much for an incredible event this morning. It was my first tri and it was a blast - felt safe, so so organized, and positive. I know there ended up being some challenges with the bike but you guys truly put  on an amazing event..” ~ Catherine Beck

What is Pop Up 5K in the Park? This is our newest 5K event! Our iDaph Team sets up a marked course every 2nd and 4th Wednesday at Fletcher Park. You can sign up before the event or at the Park, where we will give you a chipped bib, and time your run. When you start, you’ll be all by yourself (or with a close friend and/or family member), and when you cross the finish line we will cheer you on from a safe 6 feet away. Your results are then posted online, and if you join the series you are eligible for a cool medal, t-shirt, and prizes.

Don’t miss out on prizes!

SIGN UP FOR THE SERIES BY AUGUST 12TH AND ENTER TO WIN A FREE ONE-HOUR MASSAGE BY YAM! FASTEST OVERALL MALE AND FEMALE RUNNERS WILL ALSO WIN A FREE PAIR OF MIZUNO RUNNING SHOES! CLICK HERE FOR DETAILS!

Your registration fee also helps support our small business, and Fletcher Park. $1 from every registration will go to the Fletcher Park Development Fund for enhancing and adding sitting and shaded areas within the park.

“Due to COVID-19, supporting small businesses is more important than ever,” says Daphne Kirkwood, owner and Race Director of iDaph Events. “Our Pop Up 5K is a fun way to give back, push yourself, and have a little fun.”

The Pop Up 5K takes place 6pm — 8pm, and you can run anytime during that time. We ask that you wear a mask before and after the event, but not during, and we ask that you start as soon as you sign up to avoid any build of crowds.

It’s $10 for one run, $50 for the series.

August 12th race time is the last day to join the series! You must run 4 out of the 6 events to be counted in the series. Want a free t-shirt and medal? Sign up for series and be eligible to win both PLUS prizes.  In-Person and Virtual series/challenge scoring will be based on the 4 fastest times from each participant. THIS IS A DOG FRIENDLY EVENT!

Here’s what we are doing to keep our in-person events as safe as possible for everyone and adhering to the COVID-19 guidelines

• There will be no mass gathering at the start line. The rolling start will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

• The start and finish lines will be separate to avoid having too many people together at once.

• All staff/volunteers will be required to wear a face covering during the event.

• Participants are encouraged to wear a face covering until the event starts and then put it back on after they are finished running/walking in the event.

• Unfortunately, with social distancing measures in place, we will not have a finish line ‘experience’ of music, hanging out and waiting on the results or an awards ceremony. After you are finished with your race, we ask that participants head out of the finish/venue area.

• We will provide hand sanitizer stations, and will continually wipe down frequently used surfaces.

• Increased portajons with hand sanitizer at the park.

• Participants will not be permitted to form in groups. They must maintain 6 foot distancing while in the start/finish area, in the event hub.

Think you’re ready to run a 5K? We know you’ve been running — A LOT! Come and join this fun 5K and help support a great cause. We hope to see you there!

About Lung Buster

The Lung Buster Time Trial series is a five-part series of competitive cycling events. The events take place here in Western North Carolina at five different routes, and the goal is to provide a fun and professional race experience for cyclists while adhering to safe social distancing guidelines. All levels and abilities are welcome!

This series of events is a great way to challenge yourself and provide goals. It doesn’t matter what your current speed is; it is about pushing yourself beyond what you would normally push during a regular, solo training ride.

The Lung Buster Time Trial Series is about being part of a community of cyclists who strive for the same goal. It is also about supporting small business. Our iDaph Events company has been changed significantly due to COVID-19, and your participation in events like these help keep our business alive!

History of the Lung Buster

The Lung Buster Time Trial Series was an iDaph event a couple of years ago, but it took a hiatus when time trial series in general started to wane, due to the popularity of cyclocross and gravel events. But COVID-19 changed that.

When COVID-19 hit us, the cycling governing bodies came to the conclusion that time trials are the safest way to have a goal and some fun right now. As soon as I thought about bringing life back into the series, and I figured out there was a way to do it safely and quasi-virtual, it was a no brainer for me.

Time Trial Series offers safe social distancing options

Due to the pandemic and social distancing and event gathering restrictions, the 2020 Lung Buster Time Trial Series has a twist with extended durations for participation for each event. A Brand New Virtual Series is also available, where cyclists can participate ANYWHERE at ANYTIME!

The five different courses will be marked by our iDaph Team, and we will have certain evenings where we will come and cheer on the cyclists as they complete their segments.

Our unique mix of different racing environments allows riders of different strengths and focuses to level the playing field amongst competitors. Also, having five separate events means that one poor showing will not ruin your opportunity to do well in the series as a whole. Whether you’re an elite time trial champion or a recreational rider, our time trial seris offers multiple categories to choose from.

Remember: You don’t have to kill it. Your personal best is what you can do RIGHT NOW.

Start from wherever you are right now. It doesn’t matter if you were breaking records a few years ago in time trials, triathlons, etc.. Or if you were in the best shape of your life six months ago and you let it go due to stress, COVID19, life, kids… it is fine to start wherever you are at in your life and go for it!

Your personal best if yours in this present moment it is what you can do right now!

We as a community of cyclists need something fun and challenging to look forward to in this uncertain and difficult time.

Wave Starts for Light Up the Night 5K

Wave Starts for Light Up the Night 5K

Light Up the Night 5K photo of woman and daughter

The 2nd Annual Light Up the Night 5K looks quite different from last year’s 5K. Due to COVID-19 and the guidelines we are putting in place in order to adhere to the current NC guidelines AND encourage social distancing, PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW THE RULES AND CHANGES TO THIS YEAR’S EVENT IN OUR EVENT GUIDE. THE EVENT GUIDE HAS BEEN EMAILED TO ALL REGISTERED IN-PERSON PARTICIPANTS!

Over the past few months, iDaph Events has put together event safety plans for our event to move forward in a new format to ensure social distancing measures that are set forth by the CDC are adhered to. We will aim to have a ‘contactless’ event to provide a safe event for all! Please keep in mind that there is no gathering or hanging out before, during or after the event. It is a ‘show up’ and run/walk style event and then leave the event after you are done!

EVENT START

New for 2020! Socially-distanced event with a rolling, pre-assigned wave start from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. There will NOT be a mass start, and we will not allow any congregating at the start or finish line. Everyone must stay 6-feet apart at all times. Warming up before the event is permitted. However, we ask that you do not warm up near the start line area or the finish.

WAVE START TIMES

Every runner has an assigned Wave start time based on your selection when you registered. This will allow all our participants to practice social distancing from start to finish. Only show up at the start line when you are ready to start. This can be ANYTIME during the wave duration. There will be no hanging out or gathering at the start line, as soon as you arrive at the start line, you will need to start.

There are 3 waves:

6:30-6:55pm- Wave 1: Competitive Participants

7:00-7:25pm - Wave 2: Middle of the Pack

7:30-8:00pm - Wave 3: Casual Fun Runners/Walkers

How it works: So, if you are placed in Wave 1, you will be able to show up and start whenever you like between 6:30 PM and 6:55 PM. Once Wave 1 ends, we’ll use that same method for waves 2 and 3.  There is no pressure to be at the start line right at the beginning of the wave. We are using timing mats/chip timing and are practicing social distancing so there is no reason to all try to come at the start of the wave.

Please note: THE COURSE IS CLOSED AT 8:40 PM. If you are in the final wave group and plan to take about an hour to complete the event, please arrive and be prepared to start promptly at 7:30 PM.

Good luck runners and walkers and have a fun and safe event!

We have created a podcast called the iDaph Events Podcast that goes over all the fine details for our upcoming events! 2020 Asheville Off Road Series: We will see you in 2021

2020 Asheville Off Road Series: We will see you in 2021

John Smith and Connor Smith with masks on at Asheville Triathlon

The Asheville Off Road Series at Biltmore Estate is a unique, challenging event that has grown into a local and regional favorite over the years. Our 2019 event was our biggest event to date, and we were anticipating an even bigger number in 2020. We were looking forward to having another day of Gravel Grinder, 10K and Duathlon events, and sharing the excitement of racing with our participants.

The world had other plans, however.

We shut down registration for the 2020 Asheville Off Road Series in March due to COVID-19, and since that time we have been working behind the scenes with Biltmore Estate to make the event possible in some capacity. When we knew we were close to coming to a final event plan with Biltmore Estate, we sent out a survey to all of our participants to gauge community interest. We noted that there would be some major changes to the event, such as the deletion of the duathlon, staggered start times, wave starts, and other safety guidelines we would put in place to encourage social distancing.

Although the response to the survey was mostly positive and encouraging, we did not feel there were enough responses to ensure we would have the necessary number of participants for this year’s event.

Therefore, it is with heavy hearts that we are foregoing the 2020 Asheville Off Road Series this year and will instead plan for a completely epic event in 2021. With 40 percent of our participants not feeling comfortable at this time to attend an in-person event — AND with September being saturated with scheduled events already — we have opted to cancel the 2020 event completely. We are taking the safety of our participants very seriously, and although we could have this event in a safe and socially distanced way, given the survey results it would not be a viable option for our small business.

We are offering our current registrations the option to defer their registration to the 2021 event, to donate their registration costs to the iDream Athlete’s Foundation, or to receive a refund.

Registrants must submit a formal decision by August 31st at midnight by selecting one of the options in the link below. All responses must be submitted using the options in the link, and any other form of response (phone calls, emails, Facebook comments, etc) will be directed back to this page to make a selection.

If you do not respond by August 31st at midnight, your registration cost will automatically be donated to the iDream Athlete’s Foundation.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding. As we continue to evolve with the changing times, your continued involvement in our future events is more important than ever. Please stay tuned for other upcoming events this year by following our Facebook and Instagram pages, and updates on our websites. We hope everyone stays safe and continues to MOVE FORWARD in their athletic training and goals.
