COVID-19 UPDATES

Our events look different this year, and will for a long time. Here’s what we are doing to adhere to North Carolina’s COVID-19 guidelines and maintain social distancing.

RACE ROUTES

( Swim

The Patton Park pool is a pristine, 50 meter pool, HEATED 8 lane pool, located in Hendersonville and operated by the YMCA of Western North Carolina. Swimmers will be socially distanced at the start by having a pre-assigned wave start based on their swim time submitted during registration. There will be a limited number of participants allowed on the swim deck at one time based on event gathering restrictions in North Carolina on event day. Participants will be socially distanced by six feet while standing in line around the pool. Swimmers start by jumping into the deep section of the pool, swimming down the first lane, then under the swim lane into the next lane. They will continue to swim down each lane in one direction by zig-zagging through the pool. Swimmers will exit on the opposite side of the pool to run out to transition. We expect swimmers to start with a large enough gap of time so that there is no contact between swimmers. (CLICK HERE FOR SWIM ROUTE)

Bike

The 12.5 mile bike course rolls through the quiet and beautiful Oklahawa Greenway in the City of Hendersonville, exits the Greenway and flows along a ‘rolling’ course through Henderson County countryside roads. Cyclists will return to the park by way of the Greenway and back to the transition zone. The bike route will follow the PINK arrows. (CLICK HERE FOR DETOUR BIKE ROUTE due to flooding, Turn by Turn directions are in the Notes/Comments section on the Map)

Run

The 5k run is FAST and for the most part-flat, except for one little dipper hill that you will crest before entering back to the park. The entire 5k run is on the quiet, shaded and beautiful Oklahawa Greenway in the City of Hendersonville. The section of the greenway used for this event will run towards Jackson Park. There will only be a short section where the bike/run overlap. The route is an out-and-back, lollipop course, with one ‘self-service’ water station at the halfway point. We do encourage you to bring your own fuel, nutrition and refreshments for this event. The run route will follow the YELLOW arrows. (CLICK HERE FOR NEW DETOUR RUN ROUTE)

VIRTUAL HENDERSONVILLE TRIATHLON

SWIM, BIKE, RUN ON YOUR OWN TIME!

Want to do a triathlon on your own time? Participants who choose the virtual option can swim one day, run on another day and bike a totally different day. Or, you can do them all at once like you would at a triathlon event! Virtual participants will have access to the course information for the event so they can have a ‘self-serve’ event experience on the same courses as the in-person participants. Or, they can come up with their own courses anywhere that they live! Virtual participants get to challenge themselves by participating and having a goal to work towards this summer.

This is a super fun way to try a triathlon on your own time, without worrying about the transition. Virtual participants can participate anytime starting August 11th through September 30th at midnight (results must be submitted by then). Participants must sign up before September 20th at midnight.

NEW AWARD CATEGORY: WIN A PIZZA PARTY FOR YOUR COLLEGE OR HIGH SCHOOL CREW!

iDaph Events is putting together a new category for the Hendersonville Triathlon for college and high school racing teams. The college and high school racing seasons have been severely affected by COVID-19, and having local triathlon events is a great way to encourage competition and provide motivation for those athletes. The category will include an award for fastest school team. We will take the 4 fastest individual scores per college/high school tri team and calculate the winning team based on those 4 scores. The winning team gets a gift card for pizza at their local pizzeria.

SPECTATOR INFO

To encourage social distancing and to avoid groups gathering at the start and finish line, your friends and family members are invited to go out on the courses in our socially-distanced, designated cheer zones. Each cheer location has the opportunity to see your family/friend 2x! We ask that EVERYONE in the CHEER zone please stay socially distanced and wear a face-covering! Maps for each cheer zone are posted on the Event Guide and emailed to all participants prior to the event.

Due to the recent flooding on the Greenway - the Cheer Zones for the Bike are not applicable to the new detour route. The Bike Course Cheer Zone #1 N. Main and Zone # 3 at Berkeley Road and the Greenway are both great spots to cheer folks on but for the RUN course now instead of the bike course. The bike course unfortunately is not spectator friendly due to the detour.

BIKE COURSE Cheer/Spectator Zone #1

– North Main and Oklawaha Greenway - Mile .5 & Mile 12.2

BIKE COURSE Cheer/Spectator Zone #2

– Berkeley Road and Greenway – Mile 1 & Mile 11 1/2

BIKE COURSE Cheer/Spectator Zone #3

– Balfour Road and Greenway - Mile 2 & Mile 11

RUN COURSE Cheer/Spectator Zone #4

– 7th Avenue and Greenway – Mile 1.3

COVID-19: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Event is capped at 150 total participants, with limited participant wave starts.
  • These wave starts will be determined by the guidance from NC on event gatherings.
  • All participants will receive a Commemorative Finisher Medal this year!
  • Online registration will close at midnight on September 17th - make sure to sign up before then!
  • Designated Social-Distanced Cheer Stations along the bike course! Come out and cheer on your friend/family member at one of these designated cheer spots along the course! (more info coming soon)
  • There will be NO SPECTATORS allowed in the pool area during the race.
  • No walk-up registration on race day
Coordinated social distancing at the start line
  • All staff/volunteers will be required to wear a face-covering during the event.
  • Participants are required to wear a face-covering until the event starts and then put it back on after they are finished running/walking in the event.
  • Unfortunately, with social distancing measures in place, we will not have a finish line ‘experience’ of music, hanging out and waiting on the results or an awards ceremony. After you are finished with your race, we ask that you grab your food box and drink and head out of the venue area.
  • Awards will be available to be picked up locally or mailed after the event.
  • Event Swag can either be picked up locally the day before the event (at packet pickup), or mailed to you for a nominal shipping fee. You can select to have your swag mailed to you during registration up until August 31st at midnight. After that, you’re only option will be to attend the PPU session the day before the race.
  • All virtual event registration includes swag that will be mailed to you for free (shirt, medal, goodies, etc).
  • The online results will be posted by noon on Monday, September 21st
  • Other changes will be added and communicated to participants prior to the event.
  • We will not allow registrants under the age of 15. The bike course involves intersections with main roads, and may not be suitable for children under that age. Please email support@idaph.net with any questions.
  • As we all know the pandemic changes things quickly! We ask that you be flexible and patient as we may have to adjust things for this event up until the event takes place. Please know we are doing our absolute best and want this event to happen as much as you do! In the event that the U.S. or NC government, Henderson County or City of Hendersonville declares a new stay-at-home order or places new restrictions on gatherings and we are not able to have the in-person event, all ‘in-person’ triathlon event registrations will automatically be converted to the Virtual event.

TEMPERATURE SCREENINGS FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS, VOLUNTEERS AND STAFF WILL BE CONDUCTED BY PT SOLUTIONS.

DEFERRALS, TRANSFERS AND CANCELATION POLICIES

Above all else, we are striving to make this event as safe as it can possibly be for all our participants, volunteers, and staff. If you’re feeling unwell (or uncomfortable participating), we want you to be able to stay home, stay safe, and join us next year without feeling like you’re losing out. In order to make that happen, we are offering flexible options so participants can make responsible decisions based on their health.

Here are our options for registered participants who can’t make it to the race:

DEFERRALS: Anyone can defer their entry to the 2021 event at any point before 7am on Sunday, July 19th. There is a $20 deferral processing fee. Unfortunately, any requests after this date and time will not be able to be honored. If you choose this option you would be withdrawing from the event and would not be able to receive your swag or finisher medal. Note: If you have opted for the mail option of the swag, and want to defer after this swag has already been sent out, instead of a free deferral to the 2021 event, we will offer you a $30 credit to register for the event for 2021.

TRANSFER TO ANOTHER PARTICIPANT: You can transfer your registration to another participant for a $10 fee before September 13th at midnight. After that date, deferring your registration to the virtual event, or the 2021 event are your only options.

SWITCH REGISTRATION FROM IN PERSON TO VIRTUAL: You can transfer your in-person registration to a virtual registration for free at any point before the race.

REFUNDS/CANCELLATION: As we all know the pandemic changes things quickly! We ask that you be flexible and patient as we may have to adjust things for this event up until the event takes place. In the event that the U.S. or NC government, Hendersonville County or City of Hendersonville declares a new stay-at-home order or places new restrictions on gatherings and we are not able to have the in person event, all ‘in person’ triathlon event registrations will automatically be converted to the Virtual event. If it gets switched to a virtual event you will receive a $30 credit for the 2021 Hendersonville Triathlon, free transfer into the Virtual Event, and your swag mailed.

VOLUNTEER

To protect our participants and practice social distancing, we will not allow spectators in the event village area or race hub. If you would like to sign up to help along the course as a volunteer or in the event village, this will be a great way for you to support and cheer on your friends and family members! Volunteers will get a super cool, iDaph Buff! Contact events@idaph.net for more information.
