Tour d’Apple cycling event provides four exciting, challenging routes through Western North Carolina’s apple orchards, waterfalls, and mountains to benefit the charitable projects of the Hendersonville Four Seasons Rotary Club. It’s an incredibly scenic ride with options for every type of participant, free food and drinks afterwards, and awesome swag.

The 18th annual Hunter Subaru WNC Flyer will be held at Oskar Blues Brewery in beautiful Western North Carolina. There will be a rolling start with limited waves (from 8-8:45 AM). We can’t think of a better way to spend the day than with a rolling bike ride, a frosty brew, and BBQ… can you?!


Riders will have their choice of a century, metric, half century, and half metric rides which wind through the valleys south of Asheville, NC. There is beautiful mountain scenery around every bend of the road without the long mountain climbs. The Flyer is a ride for everyone - from first time riders to experienced cyclists.

2021 WNC Flyer has SOLD OUTAfter only 21 hours of online registration being open for the WNC Flyer presented by Hunter Subaru, the 2021 event has sold out. Join the waitlist in case more spots become available by going HERE. The 17th Annual WNC Flyer event is set for Sunday, June 6, 2021 at Bold Rock in Mills River, NC. Net proceeds benefit the Blue Ridge Bicycle Club and their bicycling advocacy programs in WNC.  

STAGGERED, WAVE STARTS AND OTHER CHANGES WILL BE IMPLEMENTED THIS YEAR DUE TO COVID. WE WILL BE FOLLOWING ALL THE NC EVENT GATHERING SAFETY GUIDELINES FROM START TO FINISH. 

Ride Details for 2021:

The 17th annual Hunter Subaru WNC Flyer will be held in Western North Carolina.  The start/finish will be at Bold Rock, Mills River, NC.  What better way to spend the day than with a Bike Ride, BBQ a Brew!

Riders will have their choice of  a century, metric, half century, and half metric rides which wind through the valleys south of Asheville, NC. Although it is the least hilly ride in Western North Carolina, it has plenty of rolling hills to keep all riders interested. There is beautiful mountain scenery without the long mountain climbs. The Flyer is a ride for everyone from first time riders to experience riders.

This is a fully supported ride with well-stocked rest stops and an after ride party. The Bold Rock Food truck will have lots of yummy BBQ (or Veggie lunch options) and beer for purchase after the ride.

The 14th annual Hunter Subaru WNC Flyer (formerly called Fletcher Flyer) will be held in the “Cycling Capital of the South”, Brevard, NC.  The start/finish will be at  Oskar Blues Brewery in Brevard, NC.  342 Mountain Industrial Dr, Brevard, NC 28712

Registration and Packet Pickup Times and Locations:

Saturday, June 31:30 PM to 5:00 PM – Liberty Bicycles, 1378 Hendersonville Rd, Asheville, NC 28803.

Here’s a good reason to pick up your packet on Saturday; Liberty Bicycles will be giving away 40 prizes throughout the afternoon including some random VIP Parking passes to be used at Oskar Blues on ride morning. Plus, you’ll be entered into a drawing for a grand prize to be announced on Sunday.

Ride Weekend Registration – If the event has NOT sold out before Ride Day, your friends and family can still register in person on Saturday or on Sunday. As soon as we have reached 1,000 participants we will not be able to accept any more registrations. 

Thinking about changing your ride distance? This can be done at Packet Pick Up.  Please pick up your Bib and make your way to the Ride Questions and Registration Table where we can assist you with making this switch. 

 

RAFFLE TICKETS

Purchase your raffle tickets at packet pickup and registration. By purchasing a raffle ticket, you enter for your chance to win the following: Hotel Domestique and Restaurant 17 is giving away a complimentary one night stay and dinner for two at Restaurant 17. Hincapie will also provide one kit from Hincapie Sportswear for the cycling enthusiast!

Each Ride will start promptly at the following times:
8:00AM:  Century

8:30AM:  Metric

8:45AM:  Half Century

9:00AM:  Half Metric

Safety Precautions:

There are times that officers may have to stop you for safety reasons. 

NC State Laws - obey the traffic, officers and laws. 

Stay alert and be cautious when crossing dangerous intersections.

Rider Information Guide


PARKING 
6:30 AM – 7:45 AM: Parking available on Industrial Blvd. near Oskar Blues (until lots full or at 7:45am, whichever comes first)

6:30 AM – 9:00 AM: Preferred Parking (for ease of getting in/out before and after the event) – Auxiliary Parking available at the following locations: 

  • Transylvania County Parks and Recreation Parking Lot at 1078 Ecusta Road (accessible to OB via Bike Path/Greenway)
  • Davidson River School – 970 Ecusta Rd.  (accessible to OB via Bike Path/Greenway)
  • Pisgah Forest Elementary – 1076 Ecusta Rd.(accessible to OB via Bike Path/Greenway)
  • Habitat ReStore – 692 Ecusta Road (park in Habitat lot only)

Auxiliary parking lots have portajons or restrooms available. 

6:30 AM – 9:00 AM:  *NEW for 2017!* Finisher Bag Tent open for riders to drop personal items. Items must be in a securely, closed bag with rider bib number attached.

6:30 AM – 7:45 AM: Rider Drop Off Zone Open

  • Kiss & Ride drop off point located at TVS (Transylvania Vocational Services, Inc.), 11 Mountain Industrial Drive, Brevard, NC 28712,  This is at the beginning of  the road to the brewery.  Use this option if someone is dropping you off for the ride and you want to avoid the traffic going into the brewery. Rider Drop Off Zone CLOSED promptly at 7:45am.


7:45 AM: Oskar Blues, Industrial Blvd. Road and Parking Lots – CLOSED to traffic – Auxiliary lots should be used for parking.

ROUTE INFORMATION

Full Century – A 100 mile route meandering near the French Broad River and the scenic Mills River area. The route includes 4,595 feet of climbing. There are 5 rest stops along this route at miles 15, 32, 48, 67, and 84. (follow green arrows),Cue Sheet

Metric Century  – A 63 mile route meandering near the French Broad River in both Transylvania and Henderson counties. The route includes 2,436 feet of climbing. There are 3 rest stops along this route at miles 14, 27,  and 43. (follow orange arrows) Cue Sheet

Half Century – A 54 mile route meandering near the French Broad River in both Transylvania and Henderson counties. The route includes 1,792 feet of climbing. There are 3 rest stops along this route at miles 14, 23 and 43. (follow yellow arrows)Cue Sheet

Half Metric – A 33 mile route meandering near the French Broad River in both Transylvania and Henderson counties. The route includes 1,250 feet of climbing with a few minor climbs. There is one rest stop along this route at mile 17. (follow blue arrows) Cue Sheet
