LPC Triathlon: Three ways to support a cause!

LPCposter2013Henderson County’s second annual LPC Triathlon will kick off Sunday, August 18th at the Lelia Patterson Center (LPC) in Fletcher, NC. The Hunter Subaru – LPC Triathlon is a perfect event to challenge yourself and features an easy 200 yard pool swim at the beautiful LPC, a 17.5 mile challenging bike on quiet country roads and a rolling 5k run.

A portion of the race proceeds, including race entry fees, will benefit the LPC swim program for underprivileged children.

First 175 registered participants guaranteed a race t-shirt!

We are excited to also offer team registrations for both 2 and 3 person teams. We encourage both individuals and relay teams to participate. In the LPC Triathlon Team Competition, you don’t have to be a three-sport triathlete to be in the triathlon. You can pick whichever sport is your best event and just swim, just bike, or just run for a team.

Additional information is available on the LPC Triathlon event page and the LPC Triathlon Facebook page and online registration is now open at imATHLETE.  For additional information, please email:  events@idaph.net.

Citizen-Times Takes Note: WNC Loves Multisport… & now Kids ‘Du’ too!

It looks as though 2013 is starting off with a bang, as the Carolina Kids Multi-Sport Series has been extolled in the touted Asheville Citizen-Times! We are excited the word is getting out about this as we prepare a line of kid-oriented events focus on having good times, meeting new friends, staying safe and healthy, and establishing a foundation for a better future. In the article, ‘Chief’ of our iDaph Events tribe, Daphne Kirkwood, conveys to readers how this series came to be and its objectives.

Kids MultiSport Series featured in Asheville Citizen TimesWith the help of Asheville Jewish Community Center’s Rochelle Reich and others in the area, iDaph has created this race series with the intention of fostering competition, health, and, most importantly, safe, clean fun for area youth. Daphne states the series’ goal perfectly in saying “I think kids are missing the ‘playing’ aspect. I wanted to create something around what they already do — run around, ride bikes and swim — and let them race.” She goes on to add “The focus is on participating, not winning. Everybody who participates is a winner”. While in this context she is speaking specifically about kids in this great new addition to the iDaph lineup, we feel that ALL of our participants should hone in more on the intrinsic factors in our events, looking beyond place, times, and PRs: safety, health, liberation through sport, and the childlike spirit of play.

In this new millennium, we must work to keep a balance between the conveniences of modern life and all the positive returns characteristic of physical recreation, competition, and having a little fun soaking up some Vitamin D. Through garnering healthy habits early on, a child is better able to pursue a happier tomorrow… and what better way to promote physical activity, socialization, and work ethic than a multi-sport series for our local youths?

As is the substance of the article, this series is all about safety, health, life lessons, and fun for kids through athletics. So too is the substance of iDaph events as a whole: creating unique events that promote health, well-being, and good times for participants of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. We hope that all of you, whether as a parent, competitor, or other community member, take full advantage of this series and all that is offered to you through our organization. We would love to see your children splash, bike, and dash through every pool and trail from Buncombe to Henderson… with adult supervision of course!

Congratulations to all the participants in the

Inaugural 2012 Hunter Subaru – LPC Triathlon!

We are so proud of all of you for your accomplishment today, so give yourself a big pat on the back! The rain moved in this morning but it didn’t stop many of you from giving it your all at the Inaugural LPC Triathlon! Congrats to overall male winner, Grant Hayball, who joined us all the way from Oregon and has set the swim, bike and run course standards for this event! Nicole Crane from Asheville, NC,  triumphed as the female winner overall and the Park Ridge Ladies team took the win in the team division! The race had over 150 individual and team participants registered for this first time event, although the rain unfortunately kept some athletes away.  We hope you all enjoyed the event as much as we did and will join us next year!

Today’s success couldn’t happen without the support of 20 different organizations and sponsors: Our title sponsor Hunter Subaru, Monte’s Sub Shop, Sycamore Cycles, Yum Yum Dishes, Fletcher Valley Foods, Lamar, REI, Diamond Brand, Park Ridge Health, Sparks Coaching, Clear Channel, Hendersonville Pediatric Dentistry, Gentle Family Dentistry, Paul Christopher Photography, Henco, Firehouse Subs, Baystone, Keith’s Triathlon Shop and Hammer Nutrition.

We owe a great deal of thanks to Lelia Patterson Center, Right on Time Productions (timing and results), Fletcher Police, Volunteer Police of Henderson County, Henderson County Sheriff and Rescue Squad and the NCDOT for supporting this event in Henderson County. We also want to thank all the volunteers who made this race safe and possible.

Monte’s Sub Shop at LPC Triathlon

iDaph events and the LPC Triathlon welcomes Monte’s Sub Shop to our upcoming August race! Monte’s will offer turkey and vegetarian subs for all race participants to enjoy post-race. Go visit Monte’s subs, try a sub and tell ’em thank you for their support of this FIRST EVER Henderson County Triathlon at the Leila Patterson Center in Fletcher, NC.

A little about Monte’s Sub Shop: Monte’s is located in the lovely mountains of Western North Carolina on Asheville Hwy / Hwy 25 just north of Hendersonville’s city limits.  The basic formula is this: make great subs & salads and show customers that they are appreciated. It’s that simple and yet it’s been a formula for success during the short time Monte’s has been in existence.
