COVID-19 Guidelines

We are taking this virus very seriously, and we have made substantial changes to ensure we are adhering to the NC guidelines concerning COVID-19. Participants must wear masks before and after the race, but do not have to wear a mask while running. All volunteers and staff members are required to wear masks at all times.

Please visit our Blog Post for a list of COVID-19 guidelines.

Packet Pick-up before Race Day

In-person Packet Pick-up will take place the day before the event at Fleet Feet Asheville in Biltmore Park Town Square.

Date: Wednesday, November 25th from 2-5pm.

Location: 8 Town Square Blvd #165, Asheville, NC 28803

This is a drive-through style packet pick-up, so there is no need to leave your vehicle! We will bring your packet, goody bag and race bib to your vehicle.

PLEASE NOTE: There will be NO day-of packet pickup. If you have questions please email support@idaph.net.

Race Day

Since we are conducting rolling wave starts this year, the time for this 5K event is between 8:00 am and 10:00 am. So for example, if you signed up for the 8:00-8:19 am start time you can arrive anytime between that 19 minute window to the start line to start your race. You do not have to be there at the start of your wave!

Please arrive approximately 15 minutes before your assigned wave start so that you have time to use the restrooms. You should already have your race bib, so please make sure the bib number is on the front of your shirt or some other prominent place! Do not cover it with your jacket, etc. It must be visible when you start and finish.

It is important that you start at your assigned wave start time. Our permit with Bill Moore Community Park is contingent with certain guidelines for this event. Wave start times ensure that only 50 people (the current event gathering allowed number in NC) are in a certain window of time, and allows for social distancing on the course.

If you are not able to make the wave start time you signed up for, please consider converting your race to the virtual option. The course will stay marked until end of the day on Friday, November 27th, and you can submit your results until Sunday at midnight (or run anywhere). This means you can run the race anytime after the event takes place and submit your race results online. You will still receive your race swag. You can make that change through the Race Roster profile.

Please Note: The time limit for the course is 11:00 AM.

Registration is now open for the New Year’s Resolution Run in downtown Asheville

Kiss 2020 goodbye!

Join iDaph Event’s 2021 New Year’s Resolution Run in downtown Asheville

Celebrate the love of running, fitness, and the new year with iDaph Events 7th Annual Resolution Run, set for New Year’s Day on Friday, January 1st, 2021 in downtown Asheville, NC.

This annual in-person running event has assigned wave start times beginning at 10 am, so you can watch the ball drop on New Year’s Eve and still get up in time to kick off the first day of the year on the right foot.

The race starts and ends in Pack Square, Asheville’s historic public square and the heart of Asheville. The New Year’s Resolution Run is a great way to stick to your fitness goals and stay active throughout the winter months while exploring the streets of downtown Asheville and its surrounding neighborhoods. The 10 Mile distance will not take place this year; instead, a 10K has been put in its place, along with the traditional 5K route. There is also a challenge option for endurance runners, which allows runners to run both the 5k and 10k distances for a total of 9.3 miles.

“After what we have been through as a community over the past year, I cannot imagine a better way to start off the new 2021 year,” says Race Director Daphne Kirkwood. “The New Year’s Resolution Run is an opportunity to let go of the last year together, safely and in-person.”

Changes due to COVID-19

As all of iDaph Events running events since the pandemic, this event will have major changes implemented to allow for a safe and socially distanced event. When runners register they must choose a wave start time and stick to that time when they start the race. The assigned wave start times are to ensure that runners stay socially distanced throughout the race from start to finish, and it eliminates a mass start. Each event has been capped at 150 participants.

A conditional permit has been approved by the City of Asheville on November 9, 2020 for this annual event to take place in downtown Asheville.

Runners are encouraged to bring their own water and nutrition for this event. In order to provide a safe experience for all runners, there will be no water stations or fuel stations on the race course.

For more changes due to COVID-19, please visit the Resolution Run website.

New for 2021! Virtual Option

Runners not ready to attend an in-person event or if from out of town are still able to be part of this annual Resolution Run. A virtual option for this event is also available, and runners can run the same course or a course anywhere to commemorate the start of a brand new year. Virtual participants will have access to the course information and receive all the cool swag mailed directly to their home. Top finishers are also eligible for prizes.

In-person event

5K and 10k runners participating in the in-person event will receive a race t-shirt, a commemorative finisher medal, a chip-timed race, a fully-marked course and a goody bag with their registration fee. Challenge runners will also receive an additional swag item. These swag items are a fun way to commemorate the first run of the year, and a reminder to runners that they have stuck to their fitness goals.

“For many, the t-shirt and commemorative medal will be a reminder to leave 2020 behind and provide a token of hope as together we look forward to a more healthy future in 2021,” says Kirkwood.

No after-party: But we can still have fun!

To commemorate the new year, a fresh start and the Resolution Run accomplishment, all finishers will receive a custom-designed finisher medal after they cross the finish line.

To discourage the gathering of crowds, there will not be any post-event celebrations for the in-person New Year’s Resolution Run. However, runners and spectators can check out Baires Food Truck, which will be on-site at the event serving up their delicious breakfast empanadas and special New Year’s empanadas, along with hot drinks such as hot chocolate and coffee.

There is plenty of space at Pack Square for spectators to come and cheer on their favorite runner during this event. We do ask that spectators wear masks and stay socially distanced from others while attending.

The awards ceremony will be held via Zoom the week following the event to announce overall finishers.

Sign up: Spots are limited!

It is time to say goodbye and good riddance to 2020 and HELLO 2021! For more details about this event, click the button below.

Please note: If the permit conditions change due to COVID-19 event gathering restrictions, this event will be moved to a different location. There are no deferrals or refunds for this event.

Update on Winter Programs: Asheville Winter Bike League and Asheville Swim League

Update on Winter Programs: Asheville Winter Bike League and Asheville Swim League

A note from Daphne Kirkwood,  founder of the non-profit iDream Athletes Foundation and owner and Race Director of iDaph Events.

Today I am here to give you updates regarding iDream Athletes Foundation and the winter programs that we typically would be starting soon.

The iDream Athletes Foundation helps to fund two, community athletic programs: the Asheville Winter Bike League (AVL WBL), and the Asheville Swim League (AVL SWL). Year after year, these two - group style, winter training programs have helped provide safe, donation-based training opportunities that have been welcoming and inviting for all abilities of our community athletes to attend and participate. During these two programs, athletes have worked towards a common goal of improving their cycling and swimming skills, no matter how experienced they are. Both programs promote fitness, skill-training, mental and physical well being, and a chance for community members to connect and spend time with others who share a common interest.

Over the last few months I have been brainstorming on how in the world we can do these group rides and group swims safely. Each and every time I go down various possibilities with new plans, they all seem to fall short of the original vision and mission of what these training programs are intended to do. Trust me, I have been more determined than ever to keep fun, safe happenings going on through this pandemic, and we at iDaph Events have successfully produced safe, socially-distanced and wave and rolling start style events over the past few months. However, this method for these particular programs just do not meet the need of the community and the purpose of what they are supposed to do.

The safety risks due to the pandemic are just too high to potentially endanger the lives of our community members — many of whom are older — because these programs are group-based with very little opportunity for social distancing.

It seems that there really is no other choice for the 2020/2021 AVL WBL and WSL , that we just cannot conduct either of these programs this year in the safe and collaborative environment to which we are accustomed.

Instead, we will focus on having an even better 2021! We will continue to gather donations for the iDream Athletic Foundation through iDaph Events that we are able to produce safely, and these funds will help build an even stronger athletic community in the near future. We also have some money that we can award as ‘community-based’ scholarships for adult athletes that may be struggling to purchase equipment that is needed to keep training or to pay for a dream race.

We encourage you to keep pushing towards your athletic goals and find other ways to stay motivated this winter. In fact, I would love for you all to share the creative ways you are staying motivated on the bike as the cold weather settles in..

Keep dreaming about a not-so-far-away future where we can gather in close groups once again and share our common goal for fitness.
