The Annual Trick or Trail 5k & 1 Mile Spooky Sprint is a Halloween-themed, in-person running event that will take place at Kanuga near Asheville in Hendersonville, NC on October 17, 2020.

Are you scared to run in the dark? 😱 Don’t be spooked! We have new wave starts this year so you can start and finish in the light or in the dark! Wave starts begin at 4:45 PM and the last time you can start is 7 PM.

You don’t want to miss this family-friendly, fall 5k and festive running experience. The annual Halloween-themed running event, which usually takes place at DuPont Forest, was moved due to no events being permitted this fall at  DuPont. The 5k race will now take place on trails at the Kanuga Conference Center, which offers 1,400 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains, a 30-acre lake, 20 miles of hiking trails and Ride Kanuga, a brand new mountain biking park. The trails are located close to Hendersonville and near Asheville, which makes this spot convenient for locals and a spectacular fall weekend destination for runners and outdoor enthusiasts.

The Trick or Trail 5K and Spooky Sprint 1 Mile has been a local favorite for many years. Kids and parents especially love this race because of its Halloween theme. The 5k course is run entirely through the wooded campus and includes a beautiful loop around the sparkling Kanuga Lake. The course offers a mixture of single track trail and gravel, paved, dirt and grass roads and paths through Kanuga property near Asheville, NC. The total elevation gain is approximately 200 feet, which makes this event appealing to all abilities of runners.

The iDaph team will be offering up decorations and candy to go along with the Halloween festivities, and children are welcome to “trick-or-treat” along the trail during the 1 Mile walk or run. The 1 Mile is untimed and starts early in the day, so parents and/or guardians don’t need to stress about losing daylight.

ENJOY DELICIOUS GOODIES FROM BAIRES FOOD TRUCK AT THE EVENT! Baires will be serving 4 different kinds of empanadas: Beef, chicken, spinach and cheese, and one surprise option. They will also have their famous chimichurri fries with parmesan cheese!

DEFERRALS, TRANSFERS AND CANCELATION POLICIES

DEFERRALS, TRANSFERS AND CANCELLATION POLICY
Above all else, we are striving to make this event as safe as it can possibly be for all our participants, volunteers, and staff. If you’re feeling unwell (or uncomfortable participating), we want you to be able to stay home, stay safe, and join us next year without feeling like you’re losing out. In order to make that happen, we are offering flexible options so participants can make responsible decisions based on their health.

Here are our options for registered participants who can’t make it to the race:

DEFERRALS: Anyone can defer their entry to the 2021 event at any point before 4:00 PM on October 17th. There is a $20 deferral processing fee. To complete your deferral, select the option from our race store. Unfortunately, any requests after this date and time will not be able to be honored. If you choose this option you would be withdrawing from the event and would not be able to receive your swag or finisher medal.

SWITCH REGISTRATION FROM IN PERSON TO VIRTUAL: You can transfer your in-person registration to a virtual registration for free at any point before the race.

REFUNDS/CANCELLATION: As we all know the pandemic changes things quickly! We ask that you be flexible and patient as we may have to adjust things for this event up until the event takes place. In the event that the U.S. or NC government, Hendersonville County or City of Hendersonville declares a new stay-at-home order or places new restrictions on gatherings and we are not able to have the in person event, all ‘in person’ triathlon event registrations will automatically be converted to the Virtual event. If it gets switched to a virtual event you will receive a discount for the 2021 event, and your swag mailed.

VOLUNTEER

If you would like to sign up to help along the course as a volunteer or in the event village, this will be a great way for you to support and cheer on your friends and family members!
