5K, 10K and 1 Mile Fun Run

Lelia Patterson Center, Fletcher, North Carolina

Need a goal to keep you running this winter? Join us for the 29th Annual Frostbite, the oldest and largest footrace in Henderson County! This in-person running event (with a virtual option) offers a 5K, 10K, and 1 Mile Fun Run, so there’s something for the entire family. The Frostbite races begin and finish at the Lelia Patterson Center in Fletcher, North Carolina.  Both the 10k and 5k courses provide views of Hutch Mountain and are on hilly to challenging terrain, with some moderate inclines. The flat and fast 1-mile course, makes this premier racing event an opportunity for all running levels and ages to participate together.

*NEW FOR 2021*

All participants (10k, 5k and One Mile!!) will receive a super-cool Frostbite FINISHER medal!

Endurance Runners can run both the 5k and 10k distances for a total of 15k. Special swag for Challenge runners.

Do you like to have a long sleeve tee instead of a short tee? Upgrade your race tee during online registration.

  • Participant caps: 1 Mile: 100. 10K: 150. 5K: 300.
  • Pre-assigned wave starts can be selected during online registration starts.
  • Temperature checks will be conducted.
  • We highly encourage you to bring your own hydration water bottle and nutrition. There will be no water stations on the course.
  • Coordinated social distancing at the start line
  • All staff/volunteers will be required to wear a face-covering during the event.
  • Participants are required to wear a face-covering until the event starts and then put it back on after they are finished running/walking in the event.
  • Unfortunately, with social distancing measures in place, we will not have a finish line ‘experience’ of music, hanging out and waiting on the results or an awards ceremony. After you are finished with your race, we ask that you do not congregate too long and leave the event area fairly quickly to ensure no crowding. We are not rushing you out - we just want everyone to be safe!
  • Awards will be available to be picked up locally or mailed after the event.
  • Event Swag can either be picked up locally the day of the event (at packet pickup), or mailed to you for $10 if you sign up by Sunday, January 31st at midnight. After that, you’re only option will be to attend the PPU session.
  • All virtual event registration includes swag that will be mailed to you for free (shirt, medal, goodies, etc).
  • The online results will be posted by noon the next day after the event.
  • Other changes will be added and communicated to participants prior to the event.
  • Although there are no age restrictions for this event, we ask that a parent/guardian run with any child who is 10 years old and under due to open roads.
  • As we all know the pandemic changes things quickly! We ask that you be flexible and patient as we may have to adjust things for this event up until the event takes place. Please know we are doing our absolute best and want this event to happen as much as you do! In the event that the U.S. or NC government, Henderson County or City of Fletcher declares a new stay-at-home order or places new restrictions on gatherings and we are not able to have the in-person event, all ‘in-person’  event registrations will automatically be converted to the Virtual event.

We love Volunteers! Volunteers help direct runners, assist at water stations and sere as course marshalls. A mask is required! Volunteers receive cool race swag and lots of kudos. This is a great way to get involved with your local athletic community. Click on the link below to see what volunteer opportunities there are for this event.

Above all else, we are striving to make this event as safe as it can possibly be for all our participants, volunteers, and staff. If you’re feeling unwell (or uncomfortable participating), we want you to be able to stay home, stay safe, and join us next year without feeling like you’re losing out. In order to make that happen, we are offering flexible options so participants can make responsible decisions based on their health.

Here are our options for registered participants who can’t make it to the race:

DEFERRALS: Anyone can defer their entry to the 2022 event at any point for $20 to next year up to race day on February 20, 2021. Unfortunately, any requests after this date and time will not be able to be honored. If you choose this option you would be withdrawing from the event and would not be able to receive your swag or finisher medal.

TRANSFER TO ANOTHER PARTICIPANT: You can transfer your registration to another participant for a $35 fee before December 27th at midnight. After that date, deferring your registration to the virtual event, or the 2022 event are your only options.

SWITCH REGISTRATION FROM IN PERSON TO VIRTUAL: You can transfer your in-person registration to a virtual registration for free at any point before the race.

REFUNDS/CANCELLATION: As we all know the pandemic changes things quickly! We ask that you be flexible and patient as we may have to adjust things for this event up until the event takes place. In the event that the U.S. or NC government, Henderson County or City of Fletcher declares a new stay-at-home order or places new restrictions on gatherings and we are not able to have the in-person event, all ‘in person’ event registrations will automatically be converted to the Virtual event. If it gets switched to a virtual event you will receive a $30 credit for the 2022 Frostbite Race, free transfer into the Virtual Event, and your swag mailed. There are no refunds for this event.

IN CASE OF INCLEMENT WEATHER: If there is snow/ice on race day, the race will be moved to Sunday, February 28, 2021. All entries would be automatically transferred if this happens. There are no refunds or deferrals to next year available.
