5K, 10K and 1 Mile Fun Run

Need a goal to keep you running this winter? Join us for the 30th Annual Frostbite, the oldest and largest footrace in Henderson County! This in-person running event (with a virtual option) offers a 5K, 10K, and 1 Mile Fun Run, so there’s something for the entire family. The Frostbite races begin and finish at the Lelia Patterson Center in Fletcher, North Carolina. Both the 10k and 5k courses provide views of Hutch Mountain and are on hilly to challenging terrain, with some moderate inclines. The flat and fast 1-mile course, makes this premier racing event an opportunity for all running levels and ages to participate together.

Not a super speedy runner? Don’t fret we will also give out TWO cash prizes ($50 each) for random ‘in the pack’ 10k finishers. Must be present at the awards ceremony to accept your cash prize!

Run Course
10K Course Details
Start at the Lelia Patterson Center, 10k runners take RIGHT onto Howard Gap Rd. Runners will continue on Howard Gap past Hutch Mountain Rd and past Patty’s Chapel Rd and go all the way to Jackson Rd. They will turn right on Jackson Rd and run to Patty’s Chapel Rd. They will then turn right onto Patty’s Chapel Rd and run to Howard Gap Rd. They will turn left at Howard Gap Rd back toward Hutch Mountain Rd. They will turn left onto Hutch Mountain Rd and make a U-turn on Hutch Mountain Rd and run to the finish line at the LPC. (10k runners watch for U turn signs on Hutch Mountain Road.)
5K Course Details
Runners will start at the Lelia Patterson Center, several minutes behind the 10k runners. 5k runners will turn right onto Howard Gap road and then a RIGHT at Hutch Mountain Rd, continue on Hutch Mountain Rd to approximately Pitman Rd, where they will make a U-turn and proceed to the finish line at the LPC.
1 Mile Fun Run/Walk Course Details
Begins at the Start line beside LPC, loops around by Fletcher Academy, follows path to track, run lap around track and around ball field (2x) and then return to path to Lelia Patterson Center and the Finish Line.

There will be two water stations on the 10k course and one on the 5k course. (utilized 2x).

Rules for Frostbite
• All participants are expected to display courteous, professional behavior at all times.
• No rollerblades allowed.
• Please be courteous to other foot traffic on the course.
• No alcohol is allowed.
• The roads will not be closed to traffic for this event
• 10k Race: We highly encourage children 12 and under to have a parent or guardian run with them since they are running on a main road that is not closed to traffic.

VIRTUAL
Run a 5K, or 10K on your own time! Virtual participants will have access to the course information for the event so they can have a ‘self-serve’ event experience on the same courses as the in-person runners — on any day they choose! Or run anywhere. Virtual participants receive all the cool swag mailed directly to their door. Please note: YOU CANNOT RUN YOUR VIRTUAL RUN DURING THE IN-PERSON EVENT.
Virtual Event Highlights:
• All Virtual participants will receive a free shirt (free until shirt deadline) and a finisher medal, which will be picked up at Fleet Feet Asheville (if local) or mailed to you after the race.
• Participants in the virtual event can make multiple attempts to improve their time! Final results must be submitted via Race Roster online by Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at midnight to be considered for prizes and awards.
• Overall male and female winners of the virtual events (5k &10k) will receive a special prize.

RUNNING FOR A GOOD CAUSE

The Asheville Buncombe Youth Soccer Association (ABYSA) is a 501( c ) 3 not for profit organization providing children and families in Western North Carolina with both recreational and competitive soccer programs. Soccer is America’s most popular participation sport for youth, and is a fun and healthy activity for all kids! Whether you are newcomers to soccer or desire to compete at a higher level, we have the right program for you! If we are not already serving your family, we hope to have the opportunity to do so soon!

Partial proceeds from this race will benefit the iDream Athletes Foundation.
It is the mission, duty and purpose of iDream Athletes Foundation to provide opportunities for Western North Carolina youth and adults who are unable to pay for sporting event fees, coaching, travel expenses and/or equipment to train for and/or participate in our WNC sporting events. This tax-exempt non-profit provides needs-based scholarships. The amounts to be gifted are determined on a case-by-case basis through a criteria-selection process.
In addition, we will assist in fueling the growth for local running, cycling and multi-sport champions, teams, clubs, locally owned stores and communities in Western North Carolina by providing resource and financial support when conducting our key activities.

As you approach the Lelia Patterson Center on race day, you will be directed to one of many parking lots designated for the race. The closest parking option for race day is the Fletcher Seventh-day Adventist Church at 1141 Howard Gap Road. VOLUNTEER
We love Volunteers! Volunteers help direct runners, assist at water stations and sere as course marshalls. A mask is required! Volunteers receive cool race swag and lots of kudos. DEFERRALS, TRANSFERS AND CANCELATION POLICIES
Above all else, we are striving to make this event as safe as it can possibly be for all our participants, volunteers, and staff. If you’re feeling unwell (or uncomfortable participating), we want you to be able to stay home and join us next year without feeling like you’re losing out. In order to make that happen, we are allowing everyone to transfer their registration to the virtual event at any point before the start of the race. In the virtual event, you’ll run anywhere you like, post your results, and have your swag mailed to you after the event. Transfers during the week of the event will cost $10.
REFUNDS: We have a small, but mighty team that is working on all the details to produce this event safe for you and everyone in our community in attendance. We are incurring the expenses for production well before the day of the event, and we will not be able to provide a refund to you should you want to cancel your registration, or if the event itself has to be cancelled due to the pandemic, weather, or an act of god.
TRANSFERS: All participants can transfer into the virtual version of their event up until the day of the event. Email support@idaph.net for instructions on how to transfer. There will be no refunds for the price difference between events. . Transfers during the week of the event will cost $10.
BACKUP DATE: In case the event has to be delayed due to inclement weather, the backup date is 2/27/22. All in-person registrations will be automatically pushed back to that date. If you cannot attend the backup date, you can transfer into the virtual event.
CANCELLATION: As we all know the pandemic changes things quickly! We ask that you be flexible and patient as we may have to adjust things for this event up until the event takes place. In the event that the U.S. or NC government declares a new stay-at-home order or places new restrictions on gatherings and we are not able to have the in person event, all in-person event registrations will automatically be converted to the virtual event. If it gets switched to a virtual event, you will have your swag mailed to you for free.
