Need a goal to motivate you to continue running this winter? Join us for the 31st Annual Frostbite, the oldest and largest footrace in Henderson County! This in-person running event (with a virtual option) offers a 5K, 10K, and 1 Mile Fun Run, so there’s something for the entire family. The Frostbite races begin and finish at the Lelia Patterson Center in Fletcher, North Carolina.  Both the 10k and 5k courses provide views of Hutch Mountain and are on hilly to challenging terrain, with some moderate inclines. The flat and fast 1-mile course, makes this premier racing event an opportunity for all running levels and ages to participate together.

Run Course

10K Course Details

Start at the Lelia Patterson Center, 10k runners take RIGHT onto Howard Gap Rd. Runners will continue on Howard Gap past Hutch Mountain Rd and past Patty’s Chapel Rd and go all the way to Jackson Rd. They will turn right on Jackson Rd and run to Patty’s Chapel Rd. They will then turn right onto Patty’s Chapel Rd and run to Howard Gap Rd. They will turn left at Howard Gap Rd back toward Hutch Mountain Rd. They will turn left onto Hutch Mountain Rd and make a U-turn on Hutch Mountain Rd and run to the finish line at the LPC. (10k runners watch for U turn signs on Hutch Mountain Road.)

10K GPS ROUTE

5K Course Details

Runners will start at the Lelia Patterson Center, several minutes behind the 10k runners. 5k runners will turn right onto Howard Gap road and then a RIGHT at Hutch Mountain Rd, continue on Hutch Mountain Rd to approximately Pitman Rd, where they will make a U-turn and proceed to the finish line at the LPC.

Begins at the Start line beside LPC, loops around by Fletcher Academy, follows path to track, run lap around track and around ball field (2x) and then return to path to Lelia Patterson Center and the Finish Line.

Water Stations

There will be two water stations on the 10k course  and one on the 5k course. (utilized 2x). 

10K water stations - Mile 3, Mile 5 & 6

Rules for Frostbite

• All participants are expected to display courteous, professional behavior at all times.

• No rollerblades allowed.

• Please be courteous to other foot traffic on the course.

• No alcohol is allowed.

• The roads will not be closed to traffic for this event

• 10k Race: We highly encourage children 12 and under to have a parent or guardian run with them since they are running on a main road that is not closed to traffic.

Runners can upgrade to a long sleeve, Brooks Dri-Fit shirt, available in men’s and women’s sizes, for only $10 when you register by Sunday, November 6th at midnight. Beginning November 7th, the Brooks shirts will be available for $15.

Join the flock with Flurry the Penguin for the first ever Best Dressed Penguin Contest! Come dressed as your favorite penguin and waddle alongside Flurry as he makes his way through Fletcher in the Frostbite Races. Winners will receive a custom Frostbite mug!

VIRTUAL 

Run a 5K, or 10K on your own time! Virtual participants will have access to the course information for the event so they can have a ‘self-serve’ event experience on the same courses as the in-person runners — on any day they choose! Or run anywhere. Virtual participants receive all the cool swag mailed directly to their door. Please note: YOU CANNOT RUN YOUR VIRTUAL RUN DURING THE IN-PERSON EVENT.

Virtual Event Highlights:

• All Virtual participants will receive a free shirt (until the Sunday, November 6th deadline) and a finisher medal, that can be picked up at Fleet Feet Asheville (if local) or mailed to you for free after the race. After the November 6th deadline, shirts will be available for purchase.

PACKET PICK-UP

Packet Pick-up: Friday, February 17, 2023, 12pm - 2 pm at the Lelia Patterson Center.

Race Day Pickup: 12:30 - 2:15PM at the Lelia Patterson Center

The Family Fun Day and Wellness Expo at the Lelia Patterson Center returns this year! It will be held indoors in the gym on race day, from 12:30pm - 4:30pm. Enjoy local vendors, live music, family games and activities, and yummy food and drinks.

The Asheville Buncombe Youth Soccer Association (ABYSA) is a 501( c ) 3 not for profit organization providing children and families in Western North Carolina with both recreational and competitive soccer programs. Soccer is America’s most popular participation sport for youth, and is a fun and healthy activity for all kids! Whether you are newcomers to soccer or desire to compete at a higher level, we have the right program for you! If we are not already serving your family, we hope to have the opportunity to do so soon!

Students at Fletcher Academy Farm are gardening to draw closer to their Creator. They are growing vegetables, nuts, and fruit for food that they may enjoy daily with a portion set aside to help those in need. They are practicing and teaching simple sustainable organic agricultural methods using minimal resources that place nutritious food on the table for life.

Fletcher Academy Farm will use donations to purchase seeds, hand tools and chickens.

Partial proceeds from this race will benefit the iDream Athletes Foundation.

It is the mission, duty and purpose of iDream Athletes Foundation to provide opportunities for Western North Carolina youth and adults who are unable to pay for sporting event fees, coaching, travel expenses and/or equipment to train for and/or participate in our WNC sporting events. This tax-exempt non-profit provides needs-based scholarships. The amounts to be gifted are determined on a case-by-case basis through a criteria-selection process.

In addition, we will assist in fueling the growth for local running, cycling and multi-sport champions, teams, clubs, locally owned stores and communities in Western North Carolina by providing resource and financial support when conducting our key activities.

Parking:

As you approach the Lelia Patterson Center on race day, you will be directed to one of many parking lots designated for the race. The closest parking option for race day is the Fletcher Seventh-day Adventist Church at 1141 Howard Gap Road. We love Volunteers! Volunteers help direct runners, assist at water stations and serve as course marshalls. Volunteers receive cool race swag and lots of kudos. DEFERRALS, TRANSFERS AND CANCELATION POLICIES

Did you register to participate in-person but can’t make it on race day? You don’t have to miss out! You can transfer your registration to the virtual event at any point before the start of the race. In the virtual event, you’ll run anywhere you like, post your results, and have your swag mailed to you after the event.


TRANSFERS: All participants can transfer into the virtual version of their event up until the start of the event. Email support@idaph.net to request the transfer. There will be no refunds for the price difference between events. Transfers during the week of the event will cost $10 (starting Monday, February 13th)


REFUNDS: We have a small, but mighty team that is working on all the details to produce this event safely for you and everyone in our community in attendance. We are incurring the expenses for production well before the day of the event, and we will not be able to provide a refund to you should you want to cancel your registration, or if the event itself has to be cancelled due to a change in the status of the pandemic, weather, an act of god, or other unforeseen circumstance.


CANCELLATION: In the event of an unforeseen circumstance, such as an emergency, an act of god, not receiving approval of final event permits, or change in pandemic status resulting in the inability to have the in-person event, we reserve the right to cancel the event and automatically convert all in-person registrations to the virtual option. Should this occur, your swag will be mailed to you for free.


BACKUP DATE: In case the event has to be delayed due to inclement weather, the backup date is 2/26/23. All in-person registrations will be automatically pushed back to that date. If you cannot attend the backup date, you can transfer into the virtual event.
