Challenge

The New Year’s Resolution Run Challenge is great for endurance runners or runners with kids that want to run the 5k with a family member and then a 10k on their own or vice versa! You can sign up for both the 5K and the 10K events and run them back to back or take a little break in between! You will be scored in the 5K event and the 10k race! Not only will the distance be the challenge, but it will also be a mental challenge, as you will run both a 10k and a 5k. Challenge participants get a shirt a medal + an awesome Run Local Beanie! Runners must start the 10k race first in one of the first two waves to ensure enough time to make the course cut-off.

Note: Participants in the Challenge will be competing in the 5k and the 10k races and listed in each of those results. We will not have a ‘cumulative’ time or awards category for the Challenge (15k) participants. All Challenge participants will get their own special swag for participating in the Challenge and will qualify for awards in the 5k and the 10k races.

COVID-19: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Each event is capped at 150 participants
  • There will be wave starts, with 50 people max in each wave spaced apart by 10 or 15-minute intervals.
  • These wave starts will be determined by the guidance from NC on event gatherings.
  • Temperature checks will be conducted.
  • We highly encourage you to bring your own hydration water bottle and nutrition. There will be no water stations on the course.
  • Coordinated social distancing at the start line
  • All staff/volunteers will be required to wear a face-covering during the event.
  • Participants are required to wear a face-covering until the event starts and then put it back on after they are finished running/walking in the event.
  • Unfortunately, with social distancing measures in place, we will not have a finish line ‘experience’ of music, hanging out and waiting on the results or an awards ceremony. After you are finished with your race, we ask that you do not congregate too long and leave the event area fairly quickly to ensure no crowding. We are not rushing you out - we just want everyone to be safe!
  • Awards will be available to be picked up locally or mailed after the event.
  • Event Swag can either be picked up locally the day of the event (at packet pickup), or mailed to you for $10 if you sign up by December 13th at midnight. After that, you’re only option will be to attend the PPU session.
  • All virtual event registration includes swag that will be mailed to you for free (shirt, medal, goodies, etc).
  • The online results will be posted by noon the next day after the event.
  • Other changes will be added and communicated to participants prior to the event.
  • Although there are no age restrictions for this event, we ask that a parent/guardian run with any child who is 10 years old and under due to open roads.
  • As we all know the pandemic changes things quickly! We ask that you be flexible and patient as we may have to adjust things for this event up until the event takes place. Please know we are doing our absolute best and want this event to happen as much as you do! In the event that the U.S. or NC government, Buncombe County or City of Asheville declares a new stay-at-home order or places new restrictions on gatherings and we are not able to have the in-person event, all ‘in-person’  event registrations will automatically be converted to the Virtual event.

VOLUNTEER

To protect our participants and practice social distancing, we will not allow spectators in the event village area or race hub. If you would like to sign up to help along the course as a volunteer or in the event village, this will be a great way for you to support and cheer on your friends and family members! Volunteers will get a super cool, iDaph Buff!

DEFERRALS, TRANSFERS AND CANCELATION POLICIES

Above all else, we are striving to make this event as safe as it can possibly be for all our participants, volunteers, and staff. If you’re feeling unwell (or uncomfortable participating), we want you to be able to stay home, stay safe, and join us next year without feeling like you’re losing out. In order to make that happen, we are offering flexible options so participants can make responsible decisions based on their health.

Here are our options for registered participants who can’t make it to the race:

DEFERRALS: Anyone can defer their entry to the 2022 event at any point for $20 to next year up to race day on January 1, 2021. Unfortunately, any requests after this date and time will not be able to be honored. If you choose this option you would be withdrawing from the event and would not be able to receive your swag or finisher medal.

TRANSFER TO ANOTHER PARTICIPANT: You can transfer your registration to another participant for a $35 fee before December 27th at midnight. After that date, deferring your registration to the virtual event, or the 2022 event are your only options.

SWITCH REGISTRATION FROM IN PERSON TO VIRTUAL: You can transfer your in-person registration to a virtual registration for free at any point before the race.

REFUNDS/CANCELLATION: As we all know the pandemic changes things quickly! We ask that you be flexible and patient as we may have to adjust things for this event up until the event takes place. In the event that the U.S. or NC government, Buncombe County or City of Asheville declares a new stay-at-home order or places new restrictions on gatherings and we are not able to have the in-person event, all ‘in person’ event registrations will automatically be converted to the Virtual event. If it gets switched to a virtual event you will receive a $30 credit for the 2022 New Year’s Resolution Run, free transfer into the Virtual Event, and your swag mailed. There are no refunds for this event.

IN CASE OF INCLEMENT WEATHER: If there is snow/ice on race day, the race will be moved to Saturday, January 2nd. All entries would be automatically transferred if this happens. There are no refunds or deferrals to next year available.
